nib New Zealand Board appoints new Chair

The Board of nib NZ has appointed Hanne Janes to succeed retiring Chairman, Tony Ryall.

The Chairman of nib Holdings, David Gordon, said the appointment of Ms Janes, who has served as a Non-Executive Director of nib NZ since 2016, will take effect from 1 March this year.

“I am very pleased to welcome Hanne as the new Chair of nib NZ. Her years of experience on the current nib NZ Board, her sector knowledge and thorough understanding of the regulatory environment for private health insurance makes her an ideal choice,” Mr Gordon said.

Ms Janes has worked for more than two decades as a barrister, specialising in medico-legal, commercial and corporate law, and previously worked as a management consultant with Deloitte.

She has held appointments as Counsel Assisting the Gisborne Cervical Screening Ministerial Inquiry; the Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiction; and the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care. Ms Janes also has a detailed knowledge of workplace health and safety.

Ms Janes has also served as a Non-Executive Director of ProCare Health Limited and Member of the Board of Trustees of the ProCare Charitable Foundation.

Mr Gordon paid tribute to Mr Ryall, who will retire from the Board after eight years as nib NZ Chair. Mr Ryall joined the nib NZ board as a Non-Executive Director in February 2015 and was appointed Chairman in July 2016.

“I thank Tony for his dedicated service to nib NZ over the past nine years. nib NZ has benefited enormously from his leadership during this time, and we wish him well in his future endeavours,” Mr Gordon said.

The appointment of a new NZ Chair reflects nib’s ongoing focus and commitment to orderly board renewal and succession planning.
